Class at 10 am
OCTOBER has arrived so let's welcome it with a powerful Kriya:
YOGA FOR THE GLANDS THE CIRCULATION AND THE MEDITATIVE MIND
We have talked in class about the glands and the Endocrine system before. This body system is of major importance and interacts with the nervous system to coordinate and integrate the activity of the blood cells. The Endocrine system influences metabolic activity by means of hormones, which are chemical messengers released into the blood to be transported throughout the body. This differs from the Nervous system in that it transmits signal with electrical impulses. The Endocrine system is slower in delivery yet the responses tend to be much more prolonged. It is of major importance that our bodies have clean and flowing systems in order to maintain health and they all must work together as a team. Endocrine hormones are sent directly into the blood stream to travel around the body that is why circulation is so important, both to get the signals to the gland and to flush and remove the hormones from the system. What is interesting about our mind and body is how it works together. The mind and it's release of hormones is fascinating. The mind does not know the difference between an event that is happening outside the body (that may need a response of hormones), like a big dog running at us, and one happening in the mind, like when we get home and retell the story of the big dog. Each time the mind will release hormones that raise stress levels in the body. Meditation helps us to gain control over this part of the mind so we can begin to reduce the release of these unneeded hormones.
Our meditation will be: TWO STROKE BREATH TO STIMULATE THE PITUITARY (Praana Praanee Praanayam pg 155)
See you soon.
